The Writer will work with the narrative and creative teams to create dialog, mood, emotion, and descriptors for the established vision. They must be able to take direction and turn that into compelling experiences for the player. While working with stakeholders, and a variety of disciplines you will help drive the narrative word and see it realized into a gaming experience.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities
- Partner with narrative and creative teams to create compelling narratives
- Write dialogue, characters, treatments, and cinematics that meet project goals
- Work closely with artists, engineers, and other designers to weave narrative into the game’s progression
- Maintain an agile approach to both narrative and overall design, resolve issues, provide feedback, and modify work based on direction from internal team
- Stay abreast of technical restrictions or requirements and schedule/production impacts
- Review product as necessary to help maintain on-brand messaging
- Maintain current and working knowledge on industry/market trends, make recommendations as appropriate
- Partner with team to turn the narrative vision into a playable experience
- Be an advocate for player engagement with the story
- Create and maintain all necessary documentation to support the game’s narrative content and delivery, partner with the team to update and help maintain shared library
- Exemplify reliability, accountability, and professionalism in all work-related interactions
Skills and Abilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication

- Capable of managing multiple competing tasks and being self-directed in a quickly evolving environment
- Excellent attention to detail and strong desire to iterate and improve on processes
- Skilled at writing research, and design documents
- Ability to create text and dialog fitting a game’s world and tone
- Comfortable working closely with other disciplines, and shepherding/refining good ideas regardless of where they originate
Education and Experience
- Professional experience in writing for commercial video games, with at least one title shipped in a narrative or writing role
- Deep understanding of narrative design and storytelling methods.
