Job Description

As a technical writer at Guidewire, you will use your ability to grasp technical concepts to convert developer-speak into content that speaks to our customers.

Guidewire is looking for a talented and curious technical writer who is passionate about creating compelling content that makes people successful.

Are you excited about learning new technologies? Do you like to experiment to figure out how something works? Do you enjoy making complex information easy to understand? If so, then you might be the person we are looking for.

As a technical writer at Guidewire, you will use your ability to grasp technical concepts to convert developer-speak into content that speaks to our customers. You will collaborate with cross-functional groups to create online and in-product content. You will use your passion for customer success to make sure users get the information they need to make their jobs easier.

To succeed in this role, you must have excellent communication skills, strong technical skills, a hands-on approach, and a self-motivated attitude. Expect to work in a fast-changing, flexible environment, where collaboration is key.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with developers, product managers, and user experience designers to understand our products and target audiences.
  • Plan and design targeted information experiences for developers and business users.
  • Develop content in various forms, including online content, UI text, contextual assistance, tutorials, and more.
  • Participate in initiatives to make our content more impactful and relevant to our different audiences.
  • Participate in the production and delivery of product documentation.

Required Skills and Experience

  • 3+ years of experience creating content for enterprise software products.
  • Experience creating content for technical audiences, such as developers, administrators, and DevOps.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Understanding of topic-based and structured authoring.
  • Ability to identify audience needs and analyze source materials as part of documentation planning.
  • Ability to get information from subject matter experts and learn by experimenting.
  • Ability to estimate documentation effort, assist with project planning, and meet deadlines.
  • Understanding of software development, deployment, and administration processes.
  • BA/BS in Technical Writing, English, Computer Science, or other related fields, or comparable experience.

Preferred Skills And Experience

  • Experience working with XML, DITA, or Markdown in Git or in a Component Content Management System.
  • Knowledge of web applications and cloud platforms.
  • Experience working in an Agile environment.
  • User-centered design experience.
  • Experience creating different forms of user assistance, such as videos, walk-throughs, and tutorials.
