Job Description

The Denver Post & MediaNews Group is seeking someone with a deep knowledge of cuisine and dining and a dedication to journalistic principles to cover a food scene that produces buzzworthy news daily.

The Denver Post is seeking a reporter to cover one of the most exciting up-and-coming dining scenes in the country.

Do you know fine dining from fried chicken? Are dumplings the first thing you think about when you wake up in the morning? Do tamales feature heavily in your list of hobbies? Are you just as comfortable at a five-course dinner as you are at a hole-in-the-wall or food truck? Then you might be the right person for the job of food writer for The Denver Post, the paper of record in Colorado and the voice of the Rocky Mountain empire.

We are seeking someone with a deep knowledge of cuisine and dining and a dedication to journalistic principles to cover a food scene that produces buzzworthy news daily. That includes restaurant openings and closings, celebrity chef news, dining trends, enterprise pieces, lists and much more. The position involves writing for both our print and online outlets.

  • Consistently voicing new ideas and solutions that help to improve our coverage, and actively contributing to brainstorms and discussions that impact the siteโ€™s offering.
  • Experimenting with, adapting to and suggesting digital storytelling approaches, formats and tools that better serve our audience and team.
  • Completing projects assigned by manager on time and with minimal oversight; and completing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of two years of reporting and writing for a major media outlet, preferably covering food and restaurants.

  • Self-starter who is eager to learn and develop new skills.
  • Strong news judgmental knowledge of digital storytelling tools, such as timelines, maps, crowdsourcing, etc; ability to effectively meet deadlines, work accurately and handle breaking news.
