The Blade in Toledo is seeking a full-time editorial page writer who will work in its editorial deepartment. Join a Pulitzer Prize winning, storied paper and work with the editorial page editor to produce thought provoking and timely editorials that can impact the development of Ohio, Michigan, and national policies.
The role calls for writing up to two editorials a day on largely local and state issues affecting residents of northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan. Subjects will range from politics to education to taxes to health care. Will be required to research issues and also must be able to suggest editorial topics. Job includes inputting letters to the editor from email and mail, checking those letters, and filing them into the system. Assist with editing and fact-checking local and national op-ed columnists at the direction of the editorial page editor. Will assist with daily proofing of pages.
Candidates should have past editorial writing experience and preferably in a newspaper setting. Must be well-versed in how local government operates. Must be a stronger researcher and a direct writer who knows how to make a point in a relatively quick piece. Will need to have the ability to participate in editorial board meetings and also internet and/or television interviews. College degree is required.
