Curationist Content Writers and Digital Archivist will be part of a small team that will work collaboratively under the leadership of the Content Editor and Lead Editor to produce core material as we prepare to launch our new site in the Spring.
Curationist.org is an emergent free-knowledge ecosystem made for curating and sharing global art and cultural heritage. Our goal is to deepen cultural awareness by creating accessible and equitable content about art and cultural heritage.
Curationist is developing a free digital archive of art and cultural heritage images culled from leading institutions from around the world. We are a non-profit organization dedicated to producing educational content that responsibly and respectfully updates and challenges the historical record.
All of the digital works on our site are open access, and in the public domain. We aim to help people learn about cultural heritage in fun, engaging, and inclusive ways. We envision an open collaborative platform where people can situate themselves in an artistically and culturally diverse, dynamic, and expanding world.
What We’re Looking For
We seek collaborative and curious team members who are art and cultural lovers who can write to a general audience, while still piquing the interest of arts and GLAM (galleries, libraries, archives and museums) professionals. Our editorial mantra is quirky expertise.
We are dedicated to fostering a diverse and inclusive work environment. We are guided by our commitment to geographic diversity, anti-colonial, anti-racist, feminist, and queer practices in building our team, delivering content, and cultivating community. Transformation and innovation occur when varied ideas, perspectives, and backgrounds emerge as a collective voice.
Content Writers (2)
Writers will work in teams to produce the core content of Curationist’s site, curating collections and situating them within cultural, political, and art historical contexts. Writers will work from content briefs outlined by editorial staff, doing second-phase developmental research and producing content about art and cultural heritage.
Writers develop a variety of content types ranging from topics, collections, and individual works. Writers will also produce longer features (1000-1500 words) expanding on the archive. Articles are by assignment, but there is opportunity to pitch ideas.
Writers should demonstrate familiarity with the mission and goals of Creative Commons and the Open GLAM movement. Knowledge of SEO (search engine optimization) and metadata strongly preferred. Writers will use tools like Frase and Hemingway to optimize content. The content team will adhere to the Curationist Manual of Style and editorial standards.
