Job Description

Cancer Research UK is looking for a Content Strategist to help the charity deliver the organizational content strategy.

Location: Stratford 1-2 days per week
Contract length: 2-year fixed term, 35 hours per week

Are you a highly motivated, creative, and experienced content strategist?

Cancer Research is the UK’s leading research organisation, dedicated to beating cancer. We’re looking for a content strategist to support the charity to deliver our organisational content strategy. We are migrating to a headless content management system (CMS). Working with our implementation partner, you’ll lead stakeholders in either content structure or content operations as we migrate.

We have 2 exciting opportunities for experienced content strategists to join our friendly creative team at CRUK – focusing on 2 distinct areas.

Working Within Content Structure You Will

  • Take an active role to ensure the modular system supports and furthers our strategy, interfacing between the business and technology.
  • Focus on designing and connecting content, ensuring CRUK gives a coherent brand and user experience across our content ecosystem.
  • Provide leadership and direction for the development of structured content in the new CMS
  • Plan the detail of connecting enterprise-wide knowledge and delivering structured content
  • Bring the organisation with you, through a respectful, collaborative approach
  • Cultivate partnerships with stakeholders across the charity and co-design structured content
  • Establish how content is structured and connected, so it can be found, used and re-used
  • Enable content creators to succeed through the content authoring and workflow experience
  • Guide the organisation through a collaborative process to audit website content and develop an inventory

Working Within Content Operations You Will

  • Take an active role in setting out how the charity plans, creates, delivers and maintains content for the modular system.
  • Focusing on collaboration, relationships, brand and governance, you’ll develop a methodology for how staff produce user-focused content that meets our strategic objectives.
  • Provide leadership and direction for the development of cross-org content operations for the website
  • Establish how content and assets are planned and created, so they can be plugged into the new system and managed on an ongoing basis
  • Plan the detail of delivering structured content workflow
  • Bring the organisation with you, through a respectful, collaborative approach
  • Cultivate partnerships with stakeholders across the charity and co-design content operations
  • Develop a brand-focused content model that meets business and audience objectives
  • Enable content creators to succeed through the content authoring and workflow experience
  • Guide the organisation through a collaborative process to audit website content and develop an inventory

You’ll Be Able to Bring to the Role

  • Strategic thinker with experience developing and translating content strategy into operational planning and technical delivery
  • Experience with enterprise content management
  • Relevant experience of overlapping and complex services, teams and technologies
  • A strong collaborator who can make connections across a large organisation, build relationships, and identify opportunity to co-design solutions
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary digital design teams to deliver content solutions centred on user needs, and to solve the right problems
  • Excellent leadership skills, able to work collaboratively and transparently to guide the organisation through content transformation
  • Experience setting and maintaining standards and guidelines for how content is produced and managed
  • Experience managing content operations: processes, standards, workflows, scaling
