Job Description

In this role, you will be in charge of the overall content strategy in order to build a highly engaged audience through captivating content.

Our first full-time dedicated Editorial Content Manager. In this role, you will be in charge of the overall content strategy in order to build a highly engaged audience through captivating content. This role will be reliant on impeccable written communication first and foremost.

The themes around our content are based on the premise of making the marine lifestyle more discoverable, digestible, and accessible to all. You will be responsible for the content that creates a more inclusive marine industry along with a first-time educational experience into the wonderful world of boating.

Currently, GetMyBoat’s content strategy has been focused around generating written content on transactional landing pages, with some recent emphasis on blog content (GetMyBoat Journal), email newsletters, and some location-specific guide content. GetMyBoat is in its infancy with regards to content and is looking for the right person to come in and own the program and take it to the next level.

Success in this role within the first 90 days is defined as having audited the current content strategy across all platforms, collaborating with all departments involved to get a full content picture, having put together a 2022 content plan including a yearly target, and put in place mechanisms to monitor and report the success of the outlined the plan.

It also includes successfully taking on managing a small team supporting their growth and development as well as working with our COO to build a future roadmap for how to build a team over the long-term to supplement and grow GetMyBoat’s content efforts.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop a content strategy that encompasses the goals of the company and aligns with the company’s brand.
  • Create a content style guide to create a single brand voice across multiple content channels: SEO, Blog, Product, Customer Service, Sales, Email, etc.
  • Writing and editing. You will own written content for GetMyBoat and lead by example in writing content based around the boating/travel industry as a whole.
  • Work with our Customer Service and Account Management team to better leverage our customer base and user generated content.
  • Work alongside our product marketing team to refine our product positioning and messaging to the public.
  • Work closely with in-house SEO Manager to ensure SEO best practices are implemented throughout the entire content process.
  • Track content performance for optimized ROI. Monitor and report on applicable KPI’s.
  • Develop and implement content calendars for the organization’s initiatives.
  • Manage and build a team over time that you will recruit, coach, grow, and develop.

Who You Are

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in consumer-facing content development, marketing, or communications role. We are open to hiring someone at a Sr. Manager level who demonstrates senior-level experience and skills during the recruiting process.
  • Bachelor’s degree in English or marketing preferred.
  • An effective storyteller with impeccable writing and editing skills.
  • Deep hands-on experience using blogging platforms and other standard CMS systems
  • Conducts effective research to quickly develop expertise in the new subject matter.
  • Highly developed organizational, project management, and time-management skills to assess and prioritize tasks.
  • Works autonomously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Portfolio of communications, media blogs or marketing content.

  • A passion for boating, water experiences, or travel
  • People management experience a plus
